What Is Casper, and Does UoA Use It?
Casper is an online situational judgement test run by Acuity Insights. It asks how you would respond to everyday and professional scenarios. Yes, the University of Auckland uses it: from 2028 entry, Casper makes up 50% of MBChB ranking, alongside the MMI.

What does Casper assess?
Casper looks at social intelligence and professionalism, such as ethical reasoning, empathy, communication, equity and collaboration. Responses are given to video and word-based scenarios under time limits. Acuity Insights sets the official format, which can change, so check its website for current details.
When does Casper start mattering for UoA?
Casper is new to University of Auckland selection for 2028 entry. Applicants need to complete the UoA Casper test in their year of application, so applicants for 2028 entry (applications close around 1 July 2027) are the first cohort affected. Because it is new, no New Zealand applicant has yet sat Casper for UoA entry.
How is it weighted?
For 2028 entry, applicants who clear the GPA threshold are ranked 50% on the MMI and 50% on Casper. See what's changing for 2028.
How should you prepare?

- Read the University of Auckland's own admissions guidance on how it uses Casper.
- Do a full practice under timed conditions so the format is familiar on the day.
- Focus on transferable skills: considering every person affected, explaining your reasoning, and showing empathy.
