Question 1

Is ICanMed NZ affiliated with iCanMed Australia?

Accepted Answer

No. ICanMed NZ is an independent New Zealand company focused on University of Auckland MBChB admissions. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to iCanMed Australia (icanmed.com.au) or any other similarly named organisation.

Question 2

Does ICanMed only work with Medicine applicants?

Accepted Answer

No. While Medicine is our largest programme, we also work with students applying into other University of Auckland clinical programmes, including Pharmacy, Optometry, and Medical Imaging.

Question 3

Does ICanMed help with universities other than Auckland?

Accepted Answer

No. We work exclusively with University of Auckland applicants, which is why our preparation is built specifically around UoA's admissions process rather than a general MMI or Casper curriculum.

Question 4

Who are ICanMed's tutors?

Accepted Answer

All of our tutors are current University of Auckland medical students who have been through the same MMI and admissions process themselves, with a median MMI score of 187.

Question 5

How do I get started with ICanMed?

Accepted Answer

Book a free 30-minute consultation, where we'll assess where your child currently stands and recommend the right next step, honestly and without pressure.

Question 6

Is the free consultation just a sales call?

Accepted Answer

No. The 30 minutes is spent mapping your child's standing against the GPA gate, MMI, and Casper. You'll leave with a clear picture of where they are and the realistic next steps, whether or not you choose to enrol.

Question 7

Who should attend the consultation?

Accepted Answer

Parents and students are both welcome. Most families join together so we can talk through the student's goals and the parent's questions in the same conversation.

Question 8

Is there any obligation after the call?

Accepted Answer

None. We recommend a programme only if it is genuinely the right fit, and we'd rather tell you ICanMed isn't right for your child than oversell a service that isn't.

Question 9

What is the difference between the free community and paid group prep?

Accepted Answer

The free Discord community gives you weekly prompts and discussion. The paid group prep membership at $39/month adds live coached sessions, tutor model answers, recordings, and direct access to our tutors throughout the academic year.

Question 10

What does the flagship MMI tutoring programme include?

Accepted Answer

A 30-week structure of solo or small-group coaching built around the University of Auckland MMI, with named tutors, detailed individual feedback every session, and full mock circuits closer to interview season. Pricing is discussed in the consultation.

Question 11

We already tried a tutor and it didn't help, why would this be different?

Accepted Answer

Most generic tutoring treats MMI like a content exam. It isn't. MMI and Casper test how your child thinks and communicates under pressure, so we rehearse that specifically with detailed individual feedback every session from tutors who sat the same process for UoA.

Question 12

What if my child wants to stop partway through?

Accepted Answer

Talk to us first. Sometimes a dip in motivation signals a format mismatch, not a lack of ability, and a switch between Solo and Small Group can reset things. If stopping is still the right call, we handle it fairly and without pressure.

Question 13

Why ICanMed instead of a bigger tutoring company?

Accepted Answer

Bigger companies coach many universities and tests. We coach only University of Auckland MBChB admissions, so every session, mock, and piece of feedback is built around the MMI and Casper process your child will actually sit.

Question 14

How does Casper factor into UoA Medicine entry?

Accepted Answer

Casper is a situational judgement test used alongside GPA and the MMI in the University of Auckland MBChB selection process. We prepare students specifically for the UoA weighting rather than a generic Casper course.

Question 15

Can my child practise the MMI on their own first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our free AI MMI Trainer lets students attempt realistic stations with instant feedback on structure, clarity, and reasoning, before deciding whether to move into group prep or 1:1 tutoring.
